Months after the launch of Meta’s Quest 3 headset, the tech giant has decided to make its older Quest 2 headset more affordable by slashing prices. The 128GB version is now priced at $249, down from $299, and the 256GB version has dropped from $349 to $299. Notably, these reduced prices, initially introduced during Black Friday, are now permanent.
In addition to the headset discounts, Meta is also offering significant price cuts on Quest 2 accessories:
Quest 2 Elite Strap with battery: Reduced from $119.99 to $89.99
Quest 2 Elite Strap: Lowered from $59.99 to $49.99
Quest 2 Carrying Case: Now priced at $44.99, down from $59.99
Quest 2 Active Pack: Reduced from $69.99 to $59.99
Quest 2 Fit Pack: Discounted from $49.99 to $39.99
This move comes after Meta had previously raised the prices of the Quest 2 headset by $100 in July 2022, only to drop them back to $299.99 in June when announcing the Quest 3, possibly aiming to boost sales.
While Meta boasts a diverse library of over 500 gaming titles for VR enthusiasts, it secured a notable deal last year with the launch of Roblox on the Meta Quest Store, adding value to its VR ecosystem.
With the Quest 2 now available at a more attractive price point, potential buyers might find it a compelling alternative to the higher-priced Quest 3, potentially driving increased adoption of VR technology among consumers. The strategic price adjustments and accessory discounts indicate Meta’s commitment to making virtual reality more accessible and enticing to a broader audience.
