Intel, in its ambitious push into the AI-powered enterprise software market, announces the spinout of a new platform company, Articul8 AI, with backing from DigitalBridge, a Boca Raton-based asset manager. Originating from a proof-of-concept developed through Intel’s collaboration with Boston Consulting Group (BCG), the generative AI system leverages Intel hardware and a mix of open source and proprietary software. Originally tailored for BCG’s security requirements, the platform has since been scaled to cater to industries such as finance, aerospace, semiconductor, and telecommunications, emphasizing high-level security and specialized domain knowledge.
The Articul8 platform, optimized for Intel hardware but compatible with alternatives, promises rapid deployment, scalability, security, and cost-effectiveness. Arun Subramaniyan, former VP and GM at Intel’s data center and AI group, will lead Articul8 as its CEO, with the team predominantly composed of ex-Intel employees. While Intel retains an undisclosed stake in the new entity, strategic alignment between Intel and Articul8 persists, with plans to leverage Articul8’s enterprise gen AI software for both internal use and joint go-to-market partnerships.
Articul8’s investors, beyond Intel and DigitalBridge, include Fin Capital, Mindset Ventures, Communitas Capital, GiantLeap Capital, GS Futures, and Zain Group. This move is part of Intel’s broader strategy to secure external capital for specific business units, aligning with CEO Pat Gelsinger’s revitalization plan, which involves expanding chip factories and introducing advanced chip manufacturing nodes over the next four years. Articul8 contributes to Gelsinger’s vision of offering competitive software products and services, including GenAI-powered solutions, positioning Intel as a formidable player against competitors like Nvidia and AMD across diverse applications.
